Farhash Wafa Salvador is seeking RM10 million in compensation from Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal over an allegation that the former Perak PKR chief tried to induce and threaten opposition lawmakers to support Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
The plaintiff, who used to be Anwar’s political secretary, filed the writ of summons at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Jan 22, seeking RM10 million in special damages.
According to a copy of the statement of claim, Farhash (above, right) claimed that Wan Fayhsal made the defamatory statement during a press conference at the sidelines of a parliamentary sitting on Nov 14 last year.
The plaintiff claimed that the defendant made an allegation that there was a viral video on social media purportedly showing the former involved in swaying the opposition.
Farhash rubbished the allegation as being untrue, alleging that Wan Fayhsal knowingly made the statement for political gain and fame by inciting public hatred against him and humiliating the plaintiff.
Through the civil action, the plaintiff seeks RM10 million in special damages as well as unspecified general, aggravated, exemplary and punitive damages.
Farhash also seeks a court order to compel the Bersatu leader to retract the alleged defamatory statement and to issue an unqualified public apology via newspapers and electronic news portals to be determined by the plaintiff, as well as through a press conference.
The plaintiff also seeks an injunction to prevent the defendant from further repeating the alleged defamatory statement, as well as an order to compel the latter to take down the statement from his online social media platform or website.
Wan Fayhsal has made an appearance in the matter through his legal team from law firm, Chetan Jethwani & Company.
