Businessperson reluctant to register Padu, fearing exposé on second wife

Various parties remain apprehensive about registering for the Central Database Hub (Padu), set to be used for subsidy rationalisation starting April 1.

Despite a recent increase in registration rates, concerns linger about the system’s credibility, particularly regarding personal data issues.

However, for a businessperson in Temerloh, Pahang, his reluctance to register stems from fear of his second marriage being discovered.

Ahmad Nizam Hamid, a lawyer and the Pahang Pakatan Harapan strategic director, recounted this amusing incident on his Facebook today.

He said the man in his fifties, whose name was withheld, secretly married his employee three years ago.

“He married quietly in Perlis or Terengganu, I can't remember.

“Because, in those two states, you don’t need the first wife’s permission to marry a second wife.

“He’s afraid to include his second wife in Padu because he fears his first wife will find out,” he told Malaysiakini.

Nizam did not offer any advice, instead joking, “I’ll consult Rafizi (Ramli) on what to do.”

Hasn’t found the courage yet

Earlier, Nizam posted on social media that the man had not yet found the courage.

However, Nizam preferred not to meddle in his acquaintance’s marital affairs.

“I can only say that I don’t have an answer. I don’t know what to advise and certainly can’t offer any advice in this matter,” he said on Facebook.

Nizam mentioned that with a 20-year age gap, the man’s second marriage has resulted in two children, while his first wife has four.

His second wife lives and works in the same district in Temerloh, Pahang, yet his first wife remains unaware of her existence, despite living in the same district.

His first wife is in her forties.

Recently, Chief Statistician Mohd Uzir Mahidin stated that the government’s cyber security team is on alert for any data breaches.

According to Economy Minister Rafizi, the number of Padu registrations has risen to 7.7 million as of yesterday, up from 5.4 million on March 17. - Mkini
