PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang was questioned and had his statement recorded for about an hour by two officers from the Bukit Aman police headquarters today.
His special officer, Bachok MP Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman, said Hadi has fully cooperated with ongoing investigations under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
“We’ll leave the next steps to Bukit Aman,” Syahir told reporters at the PAS headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
“Tuan Guru (Hadi) gave his statement.
“He read the inspector-general of police’s remarks yesterday, as well as the home minister’s statement,” said Syahir.
Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain yesterday confirmed a probe against Hadi.
Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail also said Hadi’s remarks - published on the PAS news portal on Feb 20 and allegedly addressed to several parties including the Malay rulers - were being investigated by a ministry task force for touching on race, religion, and royalty.
Meanwhile, Syahir did not reveal the nature of “several pages” of questions posed to Hadi.
He however pledged full cooperation, depending on Hadi’s health condition.
“Tuan Guru is doing well now. Recently he had some health issues, preventing him from attending the opening of the Parliament session,” he added.
Hadi’s letter to sultan
Syahir also declined to reveal further details on the contents of Hadi’s letter yesterday to Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
“The contents of the letter are between Tuan Guru and the sultan, we should respect that,” he added.
Hadi’s remarks had prompted Sultan Sharafuddin to express his deep regret.
In a post on the Selangor Royal Office Facebook on Feb 29, the ruler conveyed this sentiment by sending a letter to Hadi through Selangor PAS commissioner Ab Halim Tamuri.
