Education Ministry tells schools to subscribe to Malay newspapers

 

The Education Ministry has urged all schools in Peninsular Malaysia to subscribe to mainstream Malay language newspapers daily.

This is to improve the mastery of the national language among students, the ministry said in a statement today.

"The Education Ministry has taken the initiative to empower the mastery of Bahasa Malaysia among students, by encouraging newspaper reading habits in schools.

"To make this initiative a success, schools under the ministry in Peninsular Malaysia are encouraged to subscribe to Berita Harian, Utusan Malaysia, and Sinar Harian, which are mainstream Malay newspapers in the country," read the brief statement.

Schools can directly purchase the newspapers using their respective allocations, the ministry noted.
