PAS finally settled a debt of over RM659,000 with a former printer of Harakah, the party's official newspaper, as decided by the court.
According to sources, the payment was made via a cheque delivery to a lawyer representing NAJ Press Resources (M) Sdn Bhd on March 7.
On Dec 5 last year, the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court allowed NAJ Press Resources' bid for a summary judgment (a decision without a full trial) and ordered PAS and two others to pay RM656,233.69 to the printer.
However, PAS filed an appeal on Dec 14.
Meanwhile, Putra Taulan Rasul, a lawyer representing NAJ Press Resources from the law firm Putra Taulan & Faiq Azizan, confirmed the matter with Malaysiakini.
He also mentioned that PAS withdrew its appeal against the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court's decision.
"PAS has made the judgment payment and has withdrawn the appeal. Our side has also waived the interest," Putra said.
Contributions request
Previously, a letter issued by PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan asking for contributions to save Harakah and finance the court payment order to NAJ Press Resources went viral.
The letter, dated Feb 5, requested contributions ranging from RM3,000 to RM5,000 from PAS’ states, divisions, and wings.
However, the letter’s authenticity could not be confirmed after several PAS leaders contacted did not provide any response.
For the record, in August 2019, Malaysiakini disclosed the debt dispute involving Harakah and its two printers at the time - Angkatan Edaran Enterprise Sdn Bhd and NAJ Press Resources.
The debt with Angkatan Edaran was said to be over RM2 million, but the company was declared bankrupt.
However, the same management established NAJ Press Resources as a replacement and continued printing Harakah at that time. - Mkini
