PKR to defuse crisis in Sabah, Saifuddin says

PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the party’s leadership will defuse the internal crisis in its Sabah PKR chapter in the near future.

He said the party’s top brass was aware of the dispute which arose over dissatisfaction with the leadership of state chief Sangkar Rasam.

“An open political party like PKR is always dynamic, and that includes Sabah PKR.

“In Sabah, there are different views on state leadership.

“(This matter) is within the knowledge of central PKR and in the near future we will try to solve the problem,” he told reporters at a Home Ministry special engagement session in Putrajaya, yesterday.

Saifuddin, who is also the home minister, was asked if the Sabah PKR unrest issue was discussed in the party’s central leadership council meeting held recently.

However, Saifuddin said he had no information on the issue as he did not attend the meeting.

Earlier, on March 17, a total of 15 PKR branch leaders from Sabah through a statutory declaration rejected the leadership of Sangkar as Sabah PKR chairperson.

No issues with Kedah MB

On a separate issue, Saifuddin, who also has a monitoring role in the Kedah PKR leadership council, said he does not have any issues with the state menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.

He said his relationship with the PAS leader was still good despite the dispute regarding the State Development Action Council meeting.

“I don’t have a problem with him (Sanusi). I met him in Parliament. We had good greetings, and a good chat, no problem. It’s just at the state development committee level, I represent the federation, and he as the menteri besar co-chairs the meeting.

“After a year, my focus is on monitoring, making sure all federal projects go according to schedule. I go to the field as usual.

“I understand that Sanusi has a heavy responsibility in Kedah. Let us deal with each other’s work first. If there is a need in the future, let’s see, there will be no quarrels,” he said.

Previously, Sanusi complained about the absence of council meetings and expressed disappointment at the claim that Saifuddin refused to hold the meeting.

However, Saifuddin said Sanusi’s attitude of not keeping matters confidential was one of the factors why the meeting was not held for more than a year.

Hence, Saifuddin said Sanusi should not complain about the matter. - Mkini
