Police net 21kg of ganja in Penang drugs raids

Police said interrogation of the two suspects led to the arrest of the group leader and his wife in separate raids.

PETALING JAYA: Four people were arrested in possession of 21kg of ganja with a street value of about RM66,000 in three raids carried out in George Town, Bukit Aman narcotics criminal investigation department director Khaw Kok Chin said.

He added that the raids were carried out by Penang NCID acting on intelligence, Bernama reported.

He said that, in the first raid, police arrested two men, who they believe were runners, at a car park in George Town, and seized a 5kg box containing compressed ganja blocks.

Interrogation of the two suspects led to the arrest of a man believed to be behind the operation. He was arrested in the Tanjung Tokong area, and police later arrested the group leader’s wife in a separate raid on a condominium unit in Tanjung Tokong.

“Officers found a blue plastic box containing 14 blocks of compressed ganja leaves weighing 12kg. They also found a brown box containing 14 packets of ganja weighing 4kg and ganja buds,” he said at a press conference.

A car and motorcycle used by the suspects were also seized.

“The group is believed to have been operating since September last year, distributing the drugs for the local market,” he said.

One suspect tested positive for drugs and had three previous convictions.

He said the suspects, aged 28 to 41, have been remanded until March 14. - FMT
