Police reports lodged over death threat against Akmal

MELAKA: A police report has been lodged by Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh (pic) over a death threat involving the controversial socks issue.

The Umno Youth chief lodged the report at Jasin police headquarters at 5.30pm on Tuesday (March 26).

Dr Muhamad Akmal said he decided to lodge a police report after receiving a telephone call from an individual informing him of the threat.

"The threat was made through a man who later contacted me," he said

Dr Muhamad Akmal, who is also the Merlimau assemblyman, said that he was told that an individual threatened to gun down him if he continued to pursue the sock controversy.

Jasin OCPD Deputy Supt Ahmad Jamil Radzi confirmed that the report was lodged, and another similar report was made by another individual at Kandang police station on Tuesday.

He said the report is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

Earlier, five people and two companies were charged at the Shah Alam's Sessions Court over their link to the distribution and sale of the controversial sock.

KK Mart Group founder and executive chairman Datuk Seri Dr Chai Kee Kan and his wife, Loh Siew Mui, were among those charged.

Chai and his wife claimed trial to a charge under Section 298 of the Penal Code for intentionally wounding the religious feelings of others by allegedly putting the socks for sale. - Star
