Primary schools to teach AI basics from 2027 - Fadhlina

 

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said primary school pupils will be taught the basics of artificial intelligence (AI) in schools from 2027.

She said by then, school curriculums would include “Fasih Digital” (digital savvy) as one of seven competencies to be mastered.

Fadhlina said this in a parliamentary written reply on March 2 to a question by Pang Hok Liong (Harapan-Labis) who asked the Education Ministry to explain its plans to introduce AI-related subjects in primary schools to produce skilled workers.

She said her ministry was committed to producing a skilled workforce equipped with AI knowledge and skills, enabling Malaysia to remain competitive in the global economy of the digital era.

“Digitally literate pupils will be able to apply knowledge and skills in problem-solving and create something new by using the concept of computational thinking.

“Pupils will be introduced to AI basics at the primary school level through the new technology and digital subjects.

“Further exploration and application of AI will continue in the same subject in secondary school, as well as in the computer science, information and communications technology, and design and technology subjects,” added Fadhlina. - Mkini
