Two men who allegedly made online comments deemed insulting over the issue of the word Allah printed on socks have been doxxed and physically confronted by groups who were unhappy with their posts.
In Kuala Lumpur, a man apologised after being confronted by an influencer silat instructor and his friends. The man’s personal details were also circulated across social media.
Similarly, in Kota Kinabalu, another man apologised via Facebook after a group of men tried to confront him at his condominium lobby but were barred from entering by the building’s security guard.
The Sabahan had posted a comment under a New Straits Times report, saying the socks incident was a non-issue. He also made derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad and Islam in reply to other social media users.
In the Kuala Lumpur incident, the identity card number, phone numbers, email address and home address of an individual named Chiok Wai Loong were circulated on social media after he joked about the socks issue.
This led a group of men, including a silat gayung trainer who goes by the name Panglima Aduka and his friends, to confront him in person.
Panglima Aduka then posted a video where Chiok apologised and said he did not realise the seriousness of the matter when he made the posts.
“But in this situation involving Islam, I now realise it is serious and I admit my mistake. I hope all Muslims can forgive me. I promise not to repeat it,” he said in the video uploaded on TikTok yesterday which has since gone viral across social media.
‘Don’t make fun of any race or religion’
Chiok also shared the same video on his Facebook account and thanked Panglima Aduka and friends for “censuring” him on the issue.
In the video, Panglima Aduka said he and several others took the initiative to look for Chiok and hear his side of the story.
“We are here as Muslims, not representing any organisation, to ask Chiok to make a statement about what he did,” said the martial arts instructor, who has about 334,500 followers on TikTok.
Before shaking hands with Chiok, Panglima Aduka and another unnamed individual also advised Chiok never to make fun of other religions or ethnicity.
“Never (make fun) of any issue related to god, or any religion especially Islam, or issue of race. Never play around on issues of race, be it Malay, Indian or even your own ethnicity,” the unnamed individual said.
Earlier, Chiok posted on Facebook, joking that the socks with the word Allah printed on them should be welcomed as it meant the person wearing it has Allah’s protection “from head to feet”.
He also edited a photo of blue socks with his face on them and quipped that this meant he had insulted himself.
Meanwhile, Kota Kinabalu district police chief Mohd Zaidi Abdullah confirmed receiving a police report over the Sabah incident and said the man who made the allegedly insulting remarks has been called in for questioning over the matter.
The case is being investigated under Section 298 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, reported the New Straits Times.
The Sabahan also said he converted to Islam two years ago and admitted he had more to learn about the religion.
