Wan Fayhsal refers home minister to privileges committee

Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal said he has referred Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to the Parliamentary Rights and Privileges Committee.

He said this was over Saifuddin making a misleading claim three times in the Dewan Rakyat about Perikatan Nasional.

“He did not at all retract his claim, stating three times in the Dewan Rakyat that during the time that Pagoh MP Muhyiddin Yassin was the prime minister, not a single allocation was channelled to the opposition. This is inaccurate.

“For the information of the media and Malaysians, during PN’s administration, during Covid-19, all MPs, including the opposition, even the Dewan Negara, received allocations of about RM300,000 for food basket assistance - without any negotiations being made at that time,” Wan Fayhsal told a press conference in Parliament today.

He referred Saifuddin under Standing Order 36(12) of the Standing Orders of the Dewan Rakyat.

It states that any member who imputes statements that mislead the Dewan Rakyat is in contempt of the House and may be referred to the privileges committee for the offence.

Wan Fayhsal said the fact that it was the home minister who issued an inaccurate statement was evidence of unhealthy politicking.

“We asked him to withdraw it in the House. It was not difficult but it was not done. 

“So I had to refer him to the Rights and Privileges Committee so that this fact can be corrected and show that Pagoh (MP Muhyiddin) and also the PN government have never oppressed the opposition as we are oppressed today,” he said.
