PETALING JAYA: More than 20 female students at a secondary school in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, are suspected to have suffered from food poisoning after taking part in a leadership programme.

The students, aged between 13 and 17 years, are believed to have consumed packed meals provided during the programme held on Friday and Saturday.

State health department director Dr Zaini Hussin confirmed the matter.

The mother of one student said her child complained of stomach pain on the second day of the programme after eating a chicken dish that smelled rotten.

“My daughter experienced diarrhoea and fever that same night,” she said.

The mother sent her daughter to the emergency department of a hospital in Kota Bharu after first seeking treatment for her daughter at a clinic.

Another mother said her daughter complained of stomach pain and nausea on Saturday evening.

“At first, I suspected my child had gastric pain. Her condition did not improve, and she started vomiting,” she said.

Her suspicion of food poisoning was confirmed when she found out that her daughter’s friends had reported experiencing similar symptoms. - FMT
