After PDP absorbs PSB, Sng wants consolidation with PRS

In the aftermath of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) absorbing leaders and members of Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), Julau MP Larry Sng has called for a PDP-Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) merger in the future.

In a brief statement on Facebook, the Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president expressed the hope that PDP and PRS could build on their historical ties and consolidate the state’s ruling coalition.

Both parties emerged out of the de-registration of the historic Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak and Sarawak National Party in 2003.

“The dissolution of PSB with its members joining PDP is a good move.

“Hopefully, one day, PDP and PRS can merge together since both parties have historical links,” said Sng.

Last night, PDP president Tiong King Sing announced that three senior leaders of the now-dissolved Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) had taken up top positions in the PDP.

He confirmed that Wong Soon Koh was made PDP senior vice-president while Johnical Rayong Ngipa and Baru Bian were now PDP vice-presidents.

Sng said the move would strengthen the ruling GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) coalition and the Dayak cause.

Following the merger, GPS now has 80 of the 82 seats in the Sarawak state assembly.

Besides PDP and PRS, the component parties in GPS also include the dominant Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu and Sarawak United People’s Party.

Ironically, Sng himself has represented no less than five parties since replacing his father as Pelagus asssemblyperson at the age of 22. - Mkini
