Bersatu info chief sedition trial postponed to July

The Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur has postponed Bersatu information chief Razali Idris' sedition trial which was initially scheduled to begin today.

Sessions Court judge Siti Aminah Ghazali set July 11, 12, 15 and 16 as the new dates for the trial under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948 over Razali's alleged statement that the government controls the judiciary.

According to the New Straits Times, Siti Aminah vacated the trial dates after defence counsel Hasshahari Johari Nawi told the court they had sent a letter requesting the trial to be rescheduled to June.

The Kijal assemblyperson was reportedly scheduled to attend the Terengganu state legislative assembly today until Thursday.

This was on top of compulsory attendance in various official events and programmes scheduled from Friday to May 26 to mark the Terengganu sultan's birthday and given that Hari Raya Haji celebrations will fall on June 16 to 18.

Razali had claimed trial to the charge on Nov 24.

On Nov 15 last year, the MACC lodged a police report over his speech during the launching ceremony of Perikatan Nasional’s Kemaman parliamentary by-election machinery on Nov 10.

MACC said during the launch, Razali alleged that the government controlled the government machinery, MACC, and judges.

The senior state executive councillor also disputed the High Court judge's decision regarding the conviction of former youth and sports minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman. - Mkini
