Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim dismissed a report claiming the government was considering to build a casino in Forest City, Johor.
“The casino (idea)…not true…not true...it’s a lie,” he said briefly when met after an open house event jointly held by the Communications and Housing and Local Government Ministries.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that Malaysia is in talks with tycoons to open a casino in Forest City, a US$100 billion (RM480 billion) project in Johor that is on the verge of becoming a white elephant.
The business portal quoted sources saying Anwar met Berjaya Corp founder Vincent Tan and Genting Group’s Lim Kok Thay in a lunch meeting last week to discuss the matter.
It was reported that representatives of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, as well as other senior government officials, were also present at the meeting.
Sultan Ibrahim is one of the project’s shareholders.
