PETALING JAYA: A Sarawak minister has appealed to the tourism, arts and culture ministry to expedite vetting and regulating agents for the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme.

State tourism, creative industry and performing arts minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said MM2H programme agents in the state  were unable to renew their business licences and this has created a lot of inconvenience, Bernama reported.

Without these licences, he said, the agents cannot accept applications from interested parties all over the world who wanted to make Sarawak their second home.

“When the licence is not renewed, what happens to their staff? The staff have to be paid every month.

“I was informed that there are some (agents) who have already accepted deposits from prospective applicants but these applications cannot be processed.

“I hope the ministry will look into these issues as soon as possible. We cannot keep them hanging like this,” he told reporters after attending a function in Samarahan today.

On April 17, tourism, arts and culture minister Tiong King Sing was reported as saying the ministry was set to introduce a screening process for agents and intermediaries associated with the MM2H initiative.

He said agents failing to meet the new qualifications would not have their licences renewed.

Tiong said that all agents must re-register and no automatic renewal of existing licences would be granted. - Mkini
