The Israeli assassin detained in Kuala Lumpur with six pistols and 200 bullets last month is expected to be charged in court this week, said Malaysia’s top cop Razarudin Husain.
According to the inspector-general of police, a local couple who allegedly sold the weapons to the 37-year-old main suspect is going to be charged in a Klang court today.
“We will charge the husband and wife, who were in possession of firearms at Klang court, today.
“On the Israeli citizen, we are still investigating to establish his real motive behind obtaining the six guns, which we know were allegedly brought in from a neighbouring country.
“Perhaps by this week, the Israeli will be charged. Maybe after the Hari Raya,” Razarudin told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur.
It was previously reported that the Israeli in question was Shalom Avitan while his alleged assassination target Eran Haya was also detained by police in operations in Kuala Lumpur and Johor on April 4 and 5.
According to a Times of Israel report, Avitan was planning to eliminate Haya after Avitan’s home in Tel Aviv’s upscale Bavli neighbourhood became the target of several grenades tossed by Haya’s men in mid-March, around when Haya was said to have entered Malaysia.
On March 12, Malaysian police arrested Avitan at a hotel in Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, and seized six firearms and 200 bullets.
The weapons seized included Sig Sauer, Glock-27, and Smith & Wesson pistols.
Avitan is believed to have entered Malaysia through the United Arab Emirates on March 12 using a French passport.
