PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airlines is rerouting its flights between Kuala Lumpur and London to avoid Iranian airspace amid growing tensions in the Middle East.
“We are rerouting and avoiding Iranian airspace,” the national carrier told Bernama after several international airlines rerouted flights temporarily on fears that Iran would strike at Israel.
Besides MAS, the others are Air India, Australian carrier Qantas as well as German airline Lufthansa.
Budget carrier AirAsia does not use Iranian airspace for its flights at the moment.
International news reports say Israel is believed to be preparing itself for a direct attack from Iran within days or even hours. Earlier today, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps seized a container ship linked to Israel in the Gulf as tensions soar in the region.
That came after Iran blamed Israel for a strike in Syria this month which killed two Iranian generals. - FMT
