MCMC records statement over security exercise video at MyNewsHub

The circulation of an old security exercise video prompted MCMC to request a statement from MyNewsHub.

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has recorded a statement by the operator of MyNewsHub’s social media account over an old security exercise video clip published on the site.

The video showed a “senior civil servant” being stopped by auxiliary police when he attempted to climb on stage to accost the chief secretary to the government, Zuki Ali.

MCMC said the statement was recorded at its headquarters in Cyberjaya at about 8.40pm yesterday. The operator’s mobile phone and data card were seized.

The commission, which is the internet regulator, said the circulation of the 70-second video clip ‘Tanya pasal kuarters jer dh kene mcm tu depan KSN!’ was viewed with seriousness as posting content with the intent to hurt or disturb others violates the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

The public services department said yesterday that the video clip was of a simulation meant to test the preparedness of security personnel in facing provocative attacks. - FMT
