PAS condoles Hamas leader who lost sons, grandchildren in airstrike

PAS has extended its condolences to Hamas leader Sheikh Ismail Hanniyeh, whose three sons and two grandchildren were killed in an airstrike on the Al-Shati refugee camp in northern Gaza yesterday.

“This ruthless and vengeful attack epitomises the arrogance of the Zionists who were condemned by Allah. Nevertheless, such acts will never dampen the resolve of Palestinian fighters in their quest to liberate the al-Aqsa Mosque,” said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

“May the family members of Sheikh Ismail Haniyyeh be granted the status of martyrs and be able to intercede in the hereafter with the permission of Allah SWT,” he added.

Meanwhile, Bernama reported that the Malaysia Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (Mapim) condemned the Israeli military strike on the first day of Hari Raya.

“I cannot help but express my abhorrence and unequivocal condemnation of the barbarity of the Zionist occupation forces indiscriminately targeting non-combatants in the aggression.

“The ongoing genocide in Gaza is strongly condemned and we demand an immediate end to Israel’s atrocities committed with impunity.

“I reiterate and reaffirm our commitment to stand in solidarity with Palestine until liberation is achieved,” said Mapim president Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid.

According to Al Jazeera TV, Haniyeh’s sons - Hazem, Amir, and Mohammad - were killed when the car they were driving in was bombed in Gaza’s Al-Shati camp.

The attack also killed two of Haniyeh’s grandchildren and injured a third, as reported by Hamas media.

Earlier, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said that in a phone call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, he had stressed that the international community should urgently insist on stopping the massacre and elimination of people in Gaza.

“Malaysia will continue to be committed in voicing the country’s firm stance on the plight of the Palestinian people on the world stage,” he said in a Facebook post.

Consider opening borders

In a related development, Dewan Rakyat speaker Johari Abdul communicated Malaysia’s request to the Egyptian government to consider opening the borders to facilitate the delivery of food and medical assistance to the Palestinian people.

He conveyed the request to the Egyptian Ambassador to Malaysia, Ragai Tawfik Said Nasr, who was present at the open house hosted by the speaker at his official residence today.

“Recently, there has been an appeal for us to send more food and medical aid... our government is committed. Earlier, the Egyptian ambassador was here, so we asked if it would be possible to open their border.

“I’ve learned from some of our MPs who recently visited the Rafah crossing that approximately 60 to 70 food and medical trucks we dispatched have been stranded for nearly two to three months, unable to enter,” he said.

Johari emphasised that the ongoing conflict transcends religious boundaries, as it encompasses broader human rights issues, given the diverse religious backgrounds of the Palestinian people. - Mkini
