An individual was believed to have shot at his wife, and hit a bodyguard instead, in a shooting incident at the Arrival Hall of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) 1 at 1.15am this morning.
The suspect was believed to have fled north, according to police.
Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said further investigations revealed that the suspect intended to shoot at his wife who was present there.
“During the incident, the suspect’s wife was believed to be waiting for the return of Umrah pilgrims.
“The suspect fired two shots before hitting a local man who was also a bodyguard, causing the victim to suffer injuries to the abdomen,” he said in a statement this morning.
Hussein said the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code and the Firearms Act.
“The suspect has been identified and operations to track him down are ongoing.
“Further investigations revealed the suspect is believed to have fled northwards,” he said.
The state police chief said the incident was personal and not linked to any terrorist activities. He urged members of the public not to speculate regarding the incident.
“The situation at KLIA 1 is under control and safe,” he said.
The target, who is also an Umrah agent, had uploaded a statement on Facebook saying an individual had attempted to kill her as two gunshots were fired and hit her bodyguard instead.
