KUALA LUMPUR: National men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani are just one step away from winning the Badminton Asia Championship (BAC) 2024 title in Ningbo, China.

The national pair secured their spot in the final after defeating fellow Malaysians Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, 21-14, 21-18 in a 40-minute semi-final match at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium.

This marks the second time Sze Fei-Izzuddin, ranked 19th in the world, have beaten the country’s top men’s doubles pair, who are world No 5.

Waiting for them in the final are the winners of the other semi-final match between China’s Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang and Taiwanese duo, Lee Jhe Huei-Yang Po Hsuan.

The last time a Malaysian pair emerged as the BAC men’s doubles champions was when the tournament was held in Johor Bahru in 2007, with Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah defeating compatriots Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong 21-14, 11-21, 21-12. - FMT
