Court sets June 18 for decision in 40% revenue entitlement appeal

KOTA KINABALU: The Court of Appeal has set June 18 to deliver a decision on the federal Attorney General’s appeal against a Kota Kinabalu High Court ruling to grant the Sabah Law Society (SLS) leave to challenge the 40% special constitutional grant provisions.

A three-member panel comprising Justices Datuk Ravinthran N. Paramaguru, Datuk Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali and Datuk Dr Choo Kah Sing made the decision in a virtual hearing here on Friday (May 24).

The Sabah government was represented by the state AG Datuk Nor Asiah Mohd Yusof and legal advisor to the state government Datuk Brenndon Keith Soh.

The amended statements which were considered to be misguided by the previous counsel representing the state in the case of Tengku Datuk Fuad Ahmad triggered public and political backlash.

It was learned that the state government had also terminated Fuad’s services in the case.

SLS immediate past president Datuk Roger Chin said they will release a statement on the matter later on Friday (May 24).- Star
