PETALING JAYA: Pang Sock Tao’s victory in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election shows that more Malays are backing the unity government, says Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari.
In a statement hailing the Pakatan Harapan candidate’s success, Amirudin said support for the unity government among the Chinese, Indian and Orang Asli communities had also remained strong.
“This is a sign that, as Malaysians, we accept that we need each other, and the unity coalition is the best coalition to develop the country and ensure justice for the people,” said Amirudin, who is Selangor PKR chief and a party vice-president.
“The people’s decision today is a signal that they do not want agents of division to represent them,” he said.
He said Kuala Kubu Baharu voters made the right choice in voting for Pang, as it would ensure continued developments in the locality. The Selangor menteri besar said he will ensure that every election pledge made by Pang on the campaign trail would be implemented.
He said tonight’s election victory was not something to be jubilant about. “This is a responsibility entrusted by the rakyat. It is our shared responsibility as leaders who gained their confidence to continue developing the state and country,” he said. - FMT
