Cops arrest Zayn Rayyan’s grandparents

The police arrested the grandparents of the late Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin this afternoon.

According to Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan, the arrest was made to assist in the investigation of the six-year-old boy’s murder.

“Both of them were arrested today by our personnel at Subang Bestari at 2.30pm,” he said.

Earlier today, lawyer Mahmud Jumaat who represented Zayn’s mother revealed that his client did not confess but provided testimony at the Magistrate Court.

He explained that the court session was for a police application to record the alleged offender’s guilty plea under Section 26(1) of the Evidence Act.

However, Mahmut and another lawyer representing Zayn’s father contested this.

He clarified that neither of the alleged offenders confessed during the proceedings before Magistrate Zhafran Rahim Hamzah.

The remand for both parents is scheduled to end tomorrow.

The body of Zayn, a six-year-old boy with autism, was discovered by a river about 200m from his home in Damansara Damai, Selangor, around 10pm on Dec 6.

The child was believed to have been murdered, as an autopsy revealed injuries to his neck and body, indicating a struggle against the perpetrator.

Six months later, the police arrested his parents on June 1 to facilitate the investigation.

On June 10, his mother was taken to their family home for a reenactment of the events from when the six-year-old disappeared until his body was discovered. - Mkini
