Hulu Selangor Amanah bristles after losing coordinator post to Umno

Hulu Selangor Amanah has called on Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari to reinstate its deputy chief Roslin Md Zin as the Hulu Bernam state assembly coordinator.

Hulu Selangor Amanah vice-chief Mohammad Syafiq Musa claimed that Roslin’s tenure was terminated, with the post being handed over to Hulu Selangor Umno chief Mohd Isa Abu Kasim.

According to him, it was previously understood that Isa (above, right) was supposed to be made Batang Kali state assembly coordinator but that job was given to a PKR appointee.

Batang Kali and Hulu Bernam are two state seats under the Hulu Selangor parliamentary constituency.

"We have requested an explanation about this matter but until now, we have not received an answer from him (Amirudin).

"We were also informed that the action (termination) is a political move by certain parties who are trying to establish themselves in Batang Kali, which should have been given to Umno.

"Due to the series of actions, the Hulu Bernam state assembly coordinating officer from Amanah was terminated hastily and the position was handed without explanation to Umno," Syafiq said in a statement yesterday.

Amanah’s Mohd Amran Mohd Sakir contested the Hulu Bernam state seat in last year's polls. Prior to that, the seat was held by Umno's Rosni Sohar for two terms.

Isa had contested the Batang Kali state seat.

Both lost and according to Selangor Pakatan Harapan practice, the defeated candidate will be appointed as the coordinator of the seat.

The Selangor state assembly defines that the position of state assembly coordinator has a service period starting from the date of appointment until the state assembly is dissolved, or the Selangor State Assembly Council (MMKN) decides to terminate it.

Isa has been appointed as the new coordinator of the Hulu Bernam seat while the menteri besar's political secretary Saifuddin Shafi Muhammad is the coordinator of the Batang Kali seat.

Syafiq's statement was accompanied by a letter from Amirudin dated May 9 which stated that Roslin's duties as coordinator of the Hulu Bernam seat were terminated on May 14, as decided by the MMKN on May 12.

Syafiq said the decision was made without discussion and agreement of the parties in the state government.

"The actions of the MB, who is also the Selangor Harapan chairperson, clearly violate the spirit of the unity government and ignore Amanah's commitment to the state government all this time, especially in Hulu Selangor.

"We emphatically disagree (with the decision) because it clearly does not reflect the spirit of togetherness that was praised during Amanah's tenure in Harapan," he added.

'Amanah protested during meeting'

When contacted by Malaysiakini, Syafiq clarified the allegations regarding the move to give Umno the position of Hulu Bernam state assembly coordinator.

He claimed that Selangor state executive councillor Anfaal Saari, who represents Amanah, informed the MMKN meeting on May 12 that the party did not agree to Roslin's termination, adding no reasons were given for the decision either.

"Anfaal also mentioned that the menteri besar himself postponed the decision in the meeting.

"Our decision now is to demand that the Hulu Bernam state assembly coordinator position remain with Amanah," he added.

Syafiq also initially told Malaysiakini that the staff of the Hulu Bernam coordinator's office were summarily dismissed without their allowances, but later informed the portal in the evening that they just received their payment. - Mkini
