The Election Commission (EC) has fixed July 6 for the Sungai Bakap by-election.
EC deputy chairperson Azmi Sharom announced June 22 as the nomination day while early voting is scheduled for July 2.
“The budget for the by-election is estimated at RM2.1 million,” he said during a press conference in Putrajaya today.
The Sungai Bakap seat became vacant following the death of its incumbent, Nor Zamri Latiff, on May 24 due to stomach inflammation.
During a two-cornered fight in last year’s state election, Nor Zamri won with a majority of 1,563 against Pakatan Harapan candidate Nurhidayah Che Rose.
Nurhidayah previously expressed her intention to contest the seat again if given the opportunity.
