Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman claimed 92.6% of the approved funds were allocated to projects in the Pagoh, Ledang, and Bakri parliamentary constituencies.

PETALING JAYA: Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has again accused the federal government of failing to allocate funds fairly to his constituency.

Yesterday, deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof said the federal government had approved RM2.7 million for the implementation of 60 projects and programmes in the Muar parliamentary constituency so far this year.

Fadillah also said the federal government had approved RM30.39 million for the Muar parliamentary constituency under the fourth rolling plan of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).

In response, Syed Saddiq today claimed that most of these funds were directed to neighbouring constituencies.

He alleged that 92.6% of the approved funds were allocated to projects in the Pagoh, Ledang, and Bakri parliamentary constituencies.

“Only four of the 28 projects are being carried out in the Muar parliamentary constituency, and one of them is the construction of the Muar Youth Hub – which was approved in 2019,” he said.

The former youth and sports minister also cited a parliamentary reply where a minister said RM316.5 million had been allocated for the Muar parliamentary constituency.

“These (RM315.6 million) are all developmental allocations and not parliamentary allocations. These two allocations are different,” Syed Saddiq said in a statement.

He said some projects listed in a parliamentary reply as new were actually old projects, such as the marine police operations base jetty for Zone 2 and the Muar Youth Hub.

Syed Saddiq also repeated his criticism of the government for what he described as unequal distribution of parliamentary funds, stating that government MPs received RM4 million each while opposition MPs like himself received none.

“I have had to manage food baskets, laptop donations, milk, diapers, and house repairs for the needy in Muar using my own initiatives,” he said, accusing the government of using “revenge politics” to pressure voters. - FMT
