KUALA LUMPUR: A man who was held at gunpoint by a criminal during a terrifying 45-minute ordeal in Selangor has expressed relief after the armed man was shot dead in a police shootout.
The driver, in his 30s, was with his family when a gunman approached them in the parking lot of a shopping mall in Setia Alam on Feb 8. The armed suspect forced the driver to leave the mall at gunpoint in the car.
"I'm relieved that this case is now over. My family and I feel much safer," the man, who wished to remain anonymous, told Harian Metro. "Alhamdulillah, everything is now settled."
The criminal was shot dead by police yesterday in Pulau Ketam, Klang, west of here.
The traumatic ordeal began when the gunman suddenly appeared in the parking area, threatening the family with a firearm. The driver was forced to drive the criminal to the side of the highway before the suspect attempted to flee.
Following the confrontation, police quickly launched a manhunt, leading to the shootout in a hotel room at around 3am yesterday.
"My children are still young and don't fully understand what happened. Alhamdulillah, everything is now resolved," the driver added. - NST
