Sabah health department director Dr Maria Suleiman said her team received a report about a woman exhibiting signs of labour in an area isolated by a landslide.
She said the joint effort involved a retriever team from Tambunan Hospital, the Tambunan police, the public works department and members of the public working together to transport the patient across the affected area.
“An initial examination by a health team from Klinik Desa Tontolob in Liawan found the patient was in active labour and required urgent transfer to a hospital.
“The patient was successfully evacuated from the isolated area,” Bernama quoted Maria as saying.
Upon arriving at Keningau Hospital, about 50km from Tambunan, the patient was taken into the operating room where she underwent a caesarean section following signs of foetal distress.
Maria said the operation was a success, and the mother and baby were in a stable condition. - FMT
