Anwar said the discount would help people adopt healthier eating habits and save money.
“Previously, the price of drinks would sometimes be the same even without sugar. Now, there will be a difference in the pricing of drinks,” Harian Metro quoted him as saying.
“We are campaigning for less sugar in beverages,” he said at a function at Restoran Nasi Kandar Liga Maju in Putrajaya today.
The discounts are being offered by the 12,500 members of the Malaysian Muslim Restaurant Owners Association (Presma) and have been well received by customers, according to Presma president, Jawahir Ali Taib Khan.
He invited the public to visit all nasi kandar restaurants displaying the government’s Singgah Madani logo to enjoy the discount.
Jawahir also said Anwar has agreed to the association’s request for the government to continue with the foreign worker replacement scheme for restaurants.
“This scheme allows employers to get replacement workers if any foreign workers are sent back. For example, if I have a quota of 20 foreign workers, that quota will remain the same each time a worker is sent back, whether for reasons of health or if they want to go home,” he said.
Jawahir said the request had been well received by the prime minister. “It will not in any way increase the ratio of foreign workers in the restaurant sector,” he said. - FMT
