Sarawak PKR recently announced it has decided to contest in the next state election, which must be held by April 2027.

PUTRAJAYA
PKR has yet to discuss contesting the next Sarawak state election at the central leadership level, said party information chief Fahmi Fadzil.

He said the Sarawak chapter’s decision to contest was also not raised during the political bureau’s most recent meeting on Feb 23.

“We will obtain information from representatives who attended the Sarawak Pakatan Harapan meeting,” he told a press conference after the Cabinet meeting today.

“I was informed that the Sarawak PKR chairman (Roland Engan) was not present at that meeting because he was attending the political bureau meeting, which was held at the same time.”

“So he did not inform us (of the outcome of the Sarawak PH meeting), and the matter has yet to be discussed thoroughly at the central level.”

Fahmi was asked to comment on Sarawak PKR’s announcement on Monday that it has decided to contest in the next state election, which must be held by April 2027.

The ruling coalition, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, currently commands 80 seats in the 82-seat legislative assembly, with DAP holding the remaining two.

In the 2021 state election, Sarawak PKR contested 28 seats but failed to secure any, with 22 of its candidates losing their deposits. The party had won three seats in the 2016 state election. - FMT
