PETALING JAYA
Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid has decided against contesting a place on DAP’s central executive committee at the party elections next month.

In a Facebook post, Syerleena said she had been asked by many if she would be contesting the election, and that several news reports had speculated on her candidacy.

“After careful reflection, I have decided to decline.

“My heart and focus remain with the people of Parliament Bukit Bendera, and I want to continue dedicating my energy to the work we’ve started together,” she said.

Syerleena added that her commitment to the party remained steadfast, saying she had full trust in DAP’s leadership.

“I will continue working alongside my fellow party members, contributing in ways that best serve both the party and the people.”

It was previously reported that Syerleena was among 15 women expected to stand for election.

Also named were Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, who was previously placed fourth; Tanjung MP Lim Hui Ying; youth and sports minister Hannah Yeoh; deputy communications minister Teo Nie Ching; Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin; and Kluang MP Wong Shu Qi.

Others were Lanang MP Alice Lau, who is also a Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker; Sandakan MP Vivian Wong; and Damansara Utama assemblyman Jamaliah Jamaluddin. - FMT
