KUALA LUMPUR - The nation's security was on the lips of twitteratis when it was revealed today that the Twitter account belonging to Defence minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had been hacked.
Announcing the unfortunate news, Zahid said his account was hacked and would sign-up for a new Twitter account.
“My Twitter had been hacked. I don’t know who’s behind it. Dear followers, in 24 hours' time, I will create my new tweeter ID and felete [sic] this account.
"This tweeter ID will no longer (be) mine. This will be my last tweet,” he twitted.
Meanwhile, the twitteratis greeted the news with humour, saying it was an indication of the level of Malaysia's security when even the Defence minister's secret could be bared.
“It says a lot about the level of our security, kan?” quipped a Twitter post from one "anthraxxx".
Another, calling himself JeffriMS, jokingly told Zahid that it could be a plot by North Korea, in a reference to the ongoing confrontation between North Korea and South Korea which captured world headlines recently.
An irate Zahid, responding to the posts, then issued a stern message to them in three words, “Watch ur words", only to fuel even more remarks poking fun at his misfortune.
They told the minister that such stern messages would not work in the world of Twitter owing to the microblogging site's principle of equilibrium.
“Twitterjaya don't give a rat's backside who you are. In here, everybody kena. Everybody.
"Oh and don't call Twitterjaya unpatriotic just because we whack you. It’s not personal, it’s just Twitterjaya,” twitted one "syahredzan", referring to Zahid’s recent controversial remarks that non-Malays were not interested to join the armed forces due to lack of patriotism.
A check by Harakahdaily at 3.30 pm showed that Zahid’s twitter account was still active.
The only question which remains to be answered is whether he was the one doing the twitting.
