Kita secretary-general Abdul Latif A. Thambi confirmed with The Malaysian Insider this evening that the party received an official approval notice from the agency earlier today.
This, he said, meant that the party could finally accept non-Muslim members and field candidates to contest on the party’s emblem in the coming general elections, said to be held by year-end.
Abdul Latif added that the party would hold a press conference soon to discuss its next step.
Obtaining the RoS approval has been a major stumbling block for Kita since the party’s launch in January.
This was because Kita is a rebranding of the small Kelantan-based Angkatan Keadilan Insan Malaysia (Akim), which Zaid took over shortly after he quit PKR.
Without RoS’s nod, Kita would have had to continue operations as Akim and abide by the party’s original constitution, which disallows non-Muslim membership.
