PM meets ex-MPs prior to Parliament dissolution?

A Chinese daily says Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak will meet all retired BN MPs today, adding more fuel to speculation that Parliament will be dissolved tomorrow to make way for an early general election.

The report by Kwong Wah Yit Poh, which did not quote any source, said Najib had summoned all retired BN MPs to a meeting today in connection with the 13th general election.

"It is learnt that BN has prepared its campaign posters and fliers. Most of the campaign materials were printed in China and delivered to Malaysia in containers," the report says.

To shore up BN's support, the report said, Najib would soon make many favourable announcements, including the recognition of academic qualifications from Taiwan, which is a long-time demand of the Chinese community as many independent Chinese secondary school graduates further their studies in the republic.

According to his official schedule, Najib, who returned yesterday from his haj pilgrimmage to Mecca, will attend a function at Kuala Lumpur this afternoon to be updated on the progress of the Economic Transformation Programme projects.

As the current government moves into its fourth year of rule and the sluggish global economy is being shrouded with risks, speculation that Najib will call a snap election to seek a fresh mandate has been rife since early this year.

Some media reports have speculated that Parliament will be dissolved tomorrow, with "11" touted as the preferred "lucky number" of Najib, and Dec 10 to be the likely polling day.
