Mosti: Computing Bill only in initial stage

Addressing public consternation over the incomplete, vague nature of the proposed Computing Professionals Bill, the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (Mosti) has stressed that drafting of the document is in its infancy.

Critics had also hit out at the uncoordinated nature of the Computing Bill open day at Mosti in Putrajaya today.

NONEMosti officials, while present, left the organisation of the event to a panel of academicians and industry experts who had drafted Bill and who are pushing for its implementation.

"It is in the proposal stages, that it is why it is being left in the hands of industry players who asked for it in the first place," said deputy minister Fadhilah Yusof.

He explained that his ministry is merely facilitating the process of discussion between proponents and critics of the Bill so that it can be refined and made complete.

"When it has been accepted by the industry players, Mosti will take ownership and push it through," he said.

He also apologised for problems linked to ‘open day’, but promised to improve things and arrange for a proper briefing at another time.
