The Malaysian Insider pic, October 12, 2013.Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has retained his post for the second term, setting the stage for him to continue to lead the wing with his reformist, inclusive agenda while his Wanita counterpart Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil is also well on the way to lead the women’s wing again.
Party insiders told The Malaysian Insider Youth and Sports Minister Khairy had crossed the simple majority with 96 out of the 191 divisions giving their votes to him. But this is still unofficial.
The official results revealed by the party headquarters at the Putra World Trade Centre as at 9.30pm shows that Khairy got 56 votes while all four of his opponents had none.
The four are Bendang Baru Umno Youth chief Akhramsyah Sanusi, Pusat Bandar Taman Chempaka Umno Youth assistant secretary Syed Rosli Syed Harman Jamallulail, former Merbok Umno Youth chief Abd Karim Ali and Bukit Setiawangsa Umno Youth chief Irwan Ambak Khalid Izhar.
Among the divisions that gave their votes to Khairy are Tambun, Jempol and Pasir Gudang divisions.
Akhramsyah said despite Khairy building up a runaway lead, he was not willing to concede.
“As someone fighting for Malay rights, I will not give up,” he told The Malaysian Insider.
However, Lokman Adam, who is Khairy’s running mate said he was not surprised by Khairy's seemingly unassailable lead.
“He already won on the nomination. None of them can compete with him. I will be surprised if any one one of them got a vote from the division,” a jubilant Lokman told The Malaysian Insider.
Shahrizat is already building up a momentum with an official vote count  of 46 votes from the total 191 division as at 9.30pm. Her closest rival Datuk Maznah Mazlan has so far secured only one vote, and it was from the Cheras division.
Another contender Raihan Sulaiman has yet to receive any votes.
An elated Pahang Wanita chief Datuk Rosni Zahari confirmed that Shahrizat has the post in her bag.
"We know she is going to win, there is no better choice than Shahrizat. She has proven her leadership skills, which is unparalleled.
"This is an indication that things are looking up for the Wanita wing," she said.
On the Puteri front, Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin is set to be the wing’s chief judging by the voting trend.
She has 80 votes in the official vote count, as at 9.30pm, compared with her closest contender, PJ Selatan Puteri head Jamilah Hanim Othman, who is trailing with 24 votes.
