Selangor Umno, Perkasa to get more Malay voters

Noh Omar (L) and Najib (R). - The Malaysian Insider pic, October 15, 2013.Selangor Umno is to work with the Malay right-wing group Perkasa in the state to register more Malays as voters in the effort to enable the Barisan Nasional (BN) recapture Selangor from Pakatan Rakyat in the next general election, said Selangor Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Noh Omar.

"Besides the cooperation with Perkasa, we also need our BN component partners to help raise the number of voters from among the other communities," he said.

Forty-nine per cent of the voters in Selangor were Malays and the rest were non-Malays, he said when opening the annual conference of Selangor Perkasa here last night.

Also present was Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali.

Noh said the effort to increase the number of voters would be started next year after all the BN component parties had completed their party elections this year.

Ibrahim said Perkasa had set up a committee to get more Malays to register as voters. About 2.5 million Malays in the country had yet to register as voters, and they were among the five million people who would be eligible to vote in the next general election, he said. - Bernama
