What does 'progressive' KJ think of Zahid & Co?

Khairy Jamaluddin's claims that progressive elements in Umno Youth have triumphed during recent the party election rings hollow if the movement does not condemn the wrongdoings of other Umno leaders, said PKR's Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

"When (Ahmad) Zahid Hamidi played the race-card in talking about crime and gangsterism, and endorsed a 'shoot first' policy for the police, why did Khairy not condemn Zahid?

"When Umno vice-president candidate and Khairy's successor as Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Berhad (PUNB) chairperson Mohd Ali Rustam made racist remarks against the Chinese, where was Khairy?," asked Nik Nazmi in a press release today.

"Not only (did he) defended the  racist tones of Umno then, but took part in thekeris-waving theatrics of Umno Youth," said Nik Nazmi, a PKR Youth leader, Seri Setia state assemblyperson and deputy speaker of the Selangor state legislative assembly.
In view of the Khairy's history and Umno Youth's nonchalance to race-baiting tactics of certain Umno leaders recently, Nik Nazmi summised that Khairy's recent re-election as the movement's head does not show a victory for progressive thought in the party.

On Saturday, Khairy retained his position by a landslide. He was challenged by four opponents. Neither of them picked up a single vote due to the electoral college system used.
