'Who will bell the cat?' poser for Umno

Umno veteran Annuar Musa, who is running for a supreme council post on Saturday, has highlighted the need for leaders who do not suffer from inferiority complex.

NONE"If leaders have inferiority complex and are afraid to voice (their concerns), who is going to correct the prime minister?” he said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.

"There is no one else other than the supreme council that can make the government right.”

Annuar said this is because the mandate is given to the party by the rakyat and it is the party that forms the government.

"If the supreme council only waits to kiss the prime minister's hand, Umno will soon be finished (lingkup)," he warned.

He added that the supreme council must live up to its name by truly being "supreme".

‘People need to change, too’

Elaborating, Annuar said that even though the party has began transforming its system, its members too need to change in order for the transformation to be successful.

"If they do not change, even with 150,000 delegates voting there would still be money politics and abuse of power," he said.

He added that everyone, not only party supporters, is watching Umno's election.

Touching on his own candidacy, Annuar, who is also Mara chairperson, said he has not had a chance to go to the ground as he had recently been hospitalised.

However, he stressed that delegates should choose their leaders based on their track record.

"The fundamental concept is to offer ourselves (as candidates) based on our track record, (and) not suddenly become people-friendly and a fighter for two months, suddenly in a rush to dish out money. If that is the case, I feel sorry for Umno," he added.
