KOTA KINABALU - As far as local lawmaker Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan is concerned, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar is barking up the wrong tree.
“The IGP seems to have his priorities all confused and jumbled up, with threats to arrest Sabah and Sarawak rights activists seeking the restoration of Sabah and Sarawak rights in the formation of Malaysia while allowing traitors of Sabah and Malaysia and serious foreign criminals roaming all over Sabah,” said Jeffrey.
The State Reform Party (Star) Sabah chairman was responding to threats of action against alleged secessionists.
He noted that a Barisan Nasional coalition party member, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), and various other parties had lodged police reports against the wrongdoers for issuing Malaysian documents to illegal immigrants as stated in a Commission of Inquiry report on illegal immigrants in Sabah.
“The serious crimes, including insertion of ineligible foreigners in the electoral rolls, were treasonous.
“These findings were well supported by testimonies of witnesses and documents produced at the Royal Commission of Inquiry hearings, regardless of whether they were called ‘Project IC’ or not.
“As a gentle reminder to the IGP, there were reports as far back as the 1990s about the wrongful and unlawful issuance of identity cards and phantom voters, including (reports) lodged by PBS and other Sabah leaders.

“But what action has been taken against these traitors of Sabah and Malaysia?
“Why no arrests have been made until now?
“What is the motive of the police and federal government in not taking action?” asked Jeffrey.
He also touched on the lack of enforcement at the ground level, particularly on smugglers and pedlars of contraband goods, which is not restricted to just cigarettes but drugs as well, and it can be seen daily all over Sabah.
“Perhaps, the police should send an investigation team to interview the Indonesian Nunukan governor who has said recently that dangerous drugs are being smuggled from Sabah into Kalimantan and distributed throughout the archipelago,” suggested Jeffrey.
He said just days ago, the arrests of several immigration officers wrongly granting long-stay passes to Pakistanis and the charging of a Pakistani duo for attempting to bribe immigration officers were just the tip of the iceberg for the IGP to take action.
“Ask any Sabahan and they will tell you that Pakistani-run shops are mushrooming all over Sabah, even in the interiors. The Pakistanis running these shops can hardly speak any local languages.
“When will the police take action to weed out these illegal foreigners who are probably in Sabah on long-stay passes wrongly issued by rogue immigration officers?” he said, in a statement.
On the alleged threats against activists, Jeffrey said the IGP should re-look at the historical records in the Malaysian Parliament on Aug 9, 1965.

He explained that the federal government signed the separation agreement with Singapore allowing Singapore to secede from Malaysia before the Constitution and Malaysia (Singapore Amendment) Bill was tabled, debated and approved in Parliament.
“Wouldn’t it be secessionist and treasonous for the separation agreement to be signed before it was tabled and approved in Parliament?
“And what about calls by Umno leaders, religious bigots and Malay extremists to chase out other Malaysians and for them to leave the federation? Is (this) considered as separatist, seditious and treasonous?
“So what is the motive of the IGP in threatening Sabah and Sarawak activists?” Jeffrey asked.
He stressed that the people, especially in East Malaysia, should not be prevented from voicing their grievances, because it is their future as well as the future of Sabah and Sarawak, which is at stake. - http://www.therakyatpost.com/
