THEN WHY ISMAIL SABRI LET OFF? Using social media for political purposes can lead to chaos - Shabery
KUALA LUMPUR - It is feared the trend of using social media for political purposes could lead to chaos.
These were the sentiments Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek expressed in a press conference in Hulu Kelang here today during his visit to Tan Sri Jins Shamsuddin and his wife Puan Sri Halijah Abdullah.
Shabery urged social media users to think wisely before making comments or statements that could cause anger in other users.
“The problem is that the media and social social are being used as a medium to find differences in other people instead of using it to develop a spirit of compassion and living together as one society.
“Finding differences can cause issues. Issues will become conflicts. Conflicts become crises and crises will lead to chaos,” said Shabery.
When asked about the recent Facebook comment made by Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri, Shabery said the comment should be looked at from a broader context.
“To me it is about calling on the public to stand up for themselves. It is about the price and cost of goods. The traders should have decreased the prices after the reduction of oil prices,” he added.
Ismail Sabri on Facebook recently urged Malay consumers to boycott Chinese traders whose prices did not reflect the falling cost of fuel.
He later clarified that his comments were directed at errant traders and not the Chinese community. - http://www.therakyatpost.com/
