Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim believes Pakatan Rakyat (PR) will win the next election and take over Putrajaya if he is put in jail next week.
He said despite all the attacks against PR, the opposition coalition still obtained 52% of the popular vote in the last general election.
"The people support us. We got 52%. If I am put in jail again, we will win 60% (of the votes)," he said at a hi-tea event with the people in Sungai Dua, Bayan Baru in Penang today.
"If those are not followed, then 'lawan tetap lawan’ (the fight continues).”
Anwar said he had been asked repeatedly by pressmen about going to jail.
"I am innocent. Why am I going to jail?
"Will the economy get better if I am jailed? Will it eradicate corruption? Will it take care of the people's welfare?
"We have issues with race, religion and the economy. Don't spend millions trying to put me in jail," he said.
Anwar also said he had been offered asylum overseas but had declined them because he wanted to stay and fight.
He said nothing would stop him from continuing his fight against oppression for the sake of the nation and its people.
"No amount of money can buy me out. Don't threaten me with jail or conviction. I am here to support the struggle of the people and Malaysia.
"I will never compromise or surrender," said Anwar, who is also the Permatang Pauh MP.
The Federal Court will deliver its verdict on Anwar's appeal against his conviction of sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan next Tuesday.
Anwar was acquitted of the charge by the High Court but the Court of Appeal overturned the acquittal last year and sentenced him to five years' jail.
In his final appeal to the Federal Court, the prosecution had also filed a cross-appeal for an enhanced prison sentence, which would mark the end of Anwar's political career.
Anwar also touched on Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob's call for the Malays to boycott Chinese traders who failed to reduce prices of goods.
He questioned why Putrajaya was not looking at why electricity tariff and sugar prices were still up.
He took a dig at how authorities reacted to Muslims touching dogs last year at an event, as if it was a national problem.
"Stealing logs is okay...can run away after committing murder too. Muslims are so easily made fools of.
"Now they (Umno) want to support hudud? Really? The hand gets amputated for stealing logs.
"Look at the cabinet. Half of them won't have hands," he said in jest.
The event was part of the “Jelajah Rakyat Hakim Negara” series in Penang. Later tonight, Anwar will also speak at a mega ceramah in Ampang Jajar in Permatang Pauh.
