A PAS faction today accused party election director Dr Mohd Hatta Ramli as being the mastermind of a plot to unseat the Islamist party's president, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.
The faction led by PAS Kuantan youth chief, Noorzazilafadli Ibrahim, held a protest at the party headquarters in Kuala Lumpur this morning, demanding Hatta quit his party posts.
They also waved banners and posters at the protest, asking the party to fire Hatta and his cohorts.
Hatta (pic, right) has been closely identified with the "Erdogan" or progressive group within the party leadership, which is led by clerics.
The party leadership is due to meet today ahead of a long-delayed Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leadership council meeting in the PAS headquarters.
Noorzazilafadli had last night made clear his intention to submit a memorandum to the party leadership to push for Hatta's resignation.
The memo, he said, contained proof of such plot, aimed at ousting Hadi and the party leadership.
The demand came ahead of Pakatan Rakyat's (PR) presidential council meeting this afternoon which will focus on strengthening the coalition after two of its parties, PAS and DAP, engaged in open war over hudud or the Islamic penal code, and local council elections.
The meeting comes four months since the senior leaders PKR, PAS and DAP met in October last year.
Hadi, who has kept a low profile and skipped council meetings following the Selangor menteri besar imbroglio last year, is expected to attend today.
Among the top most on its agenda is who will lead the opposition pact if Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim fails in getting his sodomy conviction overturned by the Federal Court this Tuesday.
