It is sad to see how religion makes unthinking zombies out of its followers. The problem with religion is that it does not depend on logic, rational thinking, science or evidence. It is the domain of the 'tidak boleh menggunakan akal dalam semua perkara' philosoph of life.
I was engaged in some conversation recently, thoroughly boring for me, but a little challenging to people who do not know my views (real, real views which I cannot reproduce here) about the subject.
The proponents of "the things that they believe" say that the life of the prophet has been thoroughly recorded. Down to the minutest details. How he looked like, his hairstyle, the gaps in his teeth, what he ate, how he ate, how he sat down as he ate, what he toldhis wives, how he bathed, what he told his companions, even is toilet habits are said to have been truthfully recorded. Here are two examples :
1. Narrated Abu Huraira: I followed the Prophet while he was going out to answer the call of nature. He used not to look this way or that. So, when I approached near him he said to me, "Fetch for me some stones for ' cleaning the privates parts (or said something similar), and do not bring a bone or a piece of dung." So I brought the stones in the corner of my garment and placed them by his side and I then went away from him. When he finished (from answering the call of nature) he used, them .
from Sahih Bukhari 1:4:157
2. Narrated 'Abdullah: The Prophet went out to answer the call of nature and asked me to bring three stones. I found two stones and searched for the third but could not find it. So took a dried piece of dung and brought it to him. He took the two stones and threw away the dung and said, "This is a filthy thing."
from Sahih Bukhari 1:4:157

This is an example of the level of detail that has been put into preserving what are believed to be the stories about or from the prophet.
However, in my recent conversation, we discussed the fact that despite such detailed narratives there is no record of any of the prophet's sermons from the Friday prayer.
The narrative says that the prophet's mission lasted 23 years. The same narative says that prayers began three years into the prophet's mission. This means he must have prayed for at least 20 years of his life. This must include the Friday prayer.
The Friday prayer is very important to Muslims. They must attend the Friday prayers and if they miss three Friday prayers in a row, they are no more Muslim. In Terengganu they have banned shopping malls from opening during Friday prayer times so that the Mat Rempit types will not lepak in the malls during Friday prayer times. Now they lepak somewhere else.
The Friday prayer conists of two parts - the first part is the all important sermon or khutbah. The second part is the prayer itself.
Having said that there is no record of a single Friday prayer sermon or khutbah by the prophet. I mean there is no record of any of the prophet's Friday sermons (khutbah).
This is quite intriguing. Perhaps any of the readers can throw more light on this matter. Where are the Prophet's Friday sermons?
