ESCAPE TO PERTH PRE-PLANNED? : AG yet to move on Sirul extradition - why the delay

ESCAPE TO PERTH PRE-PLANNED? : AG yet to move on Sirul extradition - why the delay
The Attorney-General’s Chambers is yet to initiate any request in Australia for the extradition of convicted murderer and former police special commando officer Sirul Azhar Umar.
This is despite Sirul Azhar, who has been convicted with murdering Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu along with Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri, had been detained by the Australian authorities since Jan 22.
Sirul had, a day earlier, been placed under the ‘red notice’ of Interpol by the Malaysian police.
This latest development was confirmed with Malaysiakini yesterday by Sirul's lawyer in Malaysia, Hasnal Rezua Merican
"As far as we know, the AG’s Chambers has yet to commence any extradition request with Canberra," Hasnal (right) said.
The Malaysian lawyers representing Sirul have also appointed an Australian lawyer to represent Sirul in that country.
The lawyer appointed is Matthew Gollan, who is with the firm of Wentworth Chambers. Gollan will represent Sirul in Sydney, Hasnal added.
If an extradition request is filed, an application will have to be made for Sirul to appear before a magistrate in Australia for the extradition request to be heard.
It is learnt that Sirul has yet to be brought before the magistrate’s court.
Previously, it was reported that Sirul had threatened to “reveal all” to the Australian media.
Azilah and Sirul were found guilty of the murder of Altantuya by the Federal Court, following an appeal by the AG’s Chambers, after the Court of Appeal acquitted them in 2013. - M'kini
