Police arrest couple, suspect abuse of adopted child

Following a tip-off from the public, police found the child with wounds and scratch marks on the face, head and body.

KUCHING: Police detained a man and his wife who were suspected of abusing their four-year-old adopted child at a house in Ulu Sungai Semenggo, Batu 10 Padawan, about 50km from here.

Sarawak CID Chief, Senior Assistant Commissioner Dev Kumar said the case came to light when police rushed to the house about 11am today following public information on the possibility of child abuse being committed at the premise.

He said that upon reaching the house, police found the child in the lounge with wounds and scratch marks on the face, head, and body.In a statement tonight, Dev said investigations revealed the child was adopted by the couple, and police immediately detained the 27-year-old man and his wife, 35, for further investigation.

SAC Dev said the child was now receiving treatment at the hospital.
