Man disembowels himself after 'gastritis diagnosis'

A 49-year-old labourer has disemboweled himself in Kuala Krai, Kelantan, and initial investigations suggest that it could be related to a medical diagnosis.

According to state police chief Ab Rahman Ismail, initial information obtained suggested that the victim was distraught after learning that he is suffering from gastritis.

"In the incident (which happened yesterday), the victim locked himself in a room while his wife and children were outside.

"The man used a 'golok' (a type of machete), and we have retrieved the weapon," he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.

Following a check on the victim's house, Ab Rahman said police have ruled out any criminal elements in relation to the incident.

He said the victim is now being treated at the Kuala Krai Hospital, where he remains unconscious but in stable condition.

"We hope to identify the real cause which prompted the man to act in this manner," he added.- Mkini
