Law Minister says Federal Court Judges Were Pressured ??

de facto Law Minister Takiyuddin suggests Federal Court Judges were "pressured"

Following the Federal Courts ruling on the syariah criminal enactments the PAS fellows have made their usual half wit statements.

The Takiyuddin Hassan fellow who is also the de facto Law Minister has (according to The Malay Mail, click here)  simply trashed the Federal Court by suggesting that there was outside pressure on the Federal Court's decision.

  • Takiyuddin suggested that the court could have been pressured to make such a ruling.

  • PAS is worried that decisions by the judiciary made out of inappropriate pressure will yield no benefit for the country nor its people,” he said.

What outside pressure? Takiyuddin is now part of the Government. Takiyuddin is the de facto Law Minister. So who does Takiyuddin think has exerted outside pressure on the Federal Court?

To the NINE members of the Federal Court who sat on that judgement, if this news report is accurate, it means that your credibility and integrity has just been flushed down the tubes. De facto Law Minister Takiyuddin suggests that you were pressured.

Federal Court Judge Dato Harmindar Singh Dhaliwal just delivered a judgement where he said that public officials should be able to sue for libel when their reputations are at stake.

"Federal Court said reputation of individuals, whether in their official or personal capacities, deserve protection and they were entitled to file defamation suits.

Judge Harmindar Singh Dhaliwal said they have every right to commence such action when defamatory publications identify them in government in their attacks rather than as blanket critics of public policies.

No distinction is to be drawn between a public officer and being defamed for a conduct in his official and personal capacity,” he said in his summary judgment."

Well Yang Ariffs, keeping in mind Judge Dato Harmindhar Singh's recent judgement, for a certainty the comments by the Law Minister do cast aspersions on your reputation.

If the Federal Court keeps quiet about this comment by the Law Minister and the PAS fellows, and does not challenge their statement, then it will just open the floodgates.

The views expressed are those of the writer and do not necessarily reflect those of MMKtT.
